Growing up is hard enough. Dealing with dermatologic issues can make it even harder. Our specialties include diagnosing and treating skin conditions that infants, children and adolescents do and don’t grow out of, and helping them cope with the emotional stress as well.
You’ll give your child every opportunity for health and happiness. We’ll work with you to understand the details of your child’s treatment, your role in his or her care at home and how to help with any psychological challenges that may occur as a result of dermatologic conditions.
Infants, young children and teens have special dermatological needs. From the way they react to medications, to communicating what’s bothering them, to understanding what their treatments involve, children and teens are simply different than adults. Bottom line, whether newborn, toddler or young adult, all kids just want to feel better.
Dry, scaly patches can keep babies from sleeping and kids scratching so much that an infection can develop. With careful assessment, we’ll develop a treatment plan that alleviates the discomfort in short order and helps to keep it from reoccurring.
Kids most often develop common warts, raised, rough bumps growing around their nails or the back of their hands, and plantar warts, which usually occur on the bottom of their feet. Warts are not just uncomfortable, they can be embarrassing. We can help with both problems. Treatment options include burning, freezing or topical solutions, and as we succeed in alleviating the issues, we’ll help them feel better about themselves, too.
Acne is difficult for both boys and girls, typically appearing during the teens and early twenties, and affecting almost everyone at some point in their life. Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options ranging from dermatologist-tested skincare products to in-office procedural treatments including chemical peels, lasers and light therapy. Combining medical and procedural therapies often leads to better results.
